Champagne

Demand for Champagne has yo-yoed in the last couple of years meaning the producers have been struggling to get their forecasting correct, this has led to shortages of the big brands and of course, some price increases.

The small growers have been largely insulated from these problems and are well worth seeking out. People are drawn to the wines of Champagne partly from their association with celebration, success and luxury and partly because these wines, at their best, are some of the most complex to be found. At Tanners we try to offer you a range of the well-known brands such as Pol Roger, Bollinger and Louis Roederer, all very good houses, but also a small, carefully selected range of growers’ champagnes. These are the farmers, if you like, that have decided to go one step beyond growing grapes and supplying the big Champagne houses. Instead they bottle and market the wines themselves. With no big marketing budgets, they must rely on the quality of the wines they produce to speak for themselves.
