Domaine Divio

A blend of French tradition and Oregon innovation, Domaine Divio follows biodynamic principles in the Willamette Valley.

Domaine Divio is the creation of Burgundians, Bruno Corneaux and André Weil who met while studying in Dijon and originally worked together as chemists! Bruno, from a wine-producing family, worked in wineries in South Africa, California, Oregon and Washington after finishing his degree and then moved to the South Pacific, producing wines on the island of Tahiti. Bruno discovered the Willamette Valley in 1996, while working for Domaine Drouhin. In 2012, Bruno, his wife Isabella and André looked for sites to create the perfect Pinot, concentrating on the Willamette Valley. They then purchased the 9 ha Clos Gallia on Ribbon Ridge in 2014. The rationale was that the complex terroir here was very similar to that in Burgundy, in particular Bruno’s home village of Meloisey, close to Beaune. 4.5 ha were planted over the next couple of years, with the remainder left unplanted to encourage biodiversity. The first harvest was in 2017 and while they were waiting for the vines to mature, they also began sourcing from partner estates in the Willamette Valley.

The philosophy is to make traditional Burgundy-style wines with minimal intervention, so everything is bottled unfiltered and unfined and the vineyards are dry farmed, following biodynamic principles with no artificial fertilisers and chemicals used.
