Aston Estate
After finding an intriguing 40 acre parcel in northern Sonoma Coast in 2001, star Californian winemaker Thomas Rivers-Brown established Aston Estate with Fred Schrader and Charles Sweeney of Schrader Cellars and Vine Cliff wineries respectively.
The parcel is now a mature 14 acre plot of Pinot Noir solely owned by Rivers-Brown who crafts single estate reds to complement his burgeoning portfolio at Rivers-Marie. The location of Aston Estate’s vineyards are key to the unique Burgundian style Rivers-Brown seeks. The plantings lie just two ridge lines from the ocean bringing cooling breezes whilst the estate is outside the fog line, meaning growing days are long and temperate. Only Dijon clones of Pinot Noir are planted on slopes with 10-15% gradients, reminiscent of the grand cru sites of Burgundy.
