Enrico Esu

Sardinia is another region distinct in its culture and traditions. Originally shepherds, the Esu family have 10 hectares of ungrafted Carignano vines planted by Enrico’s father Silvio in 1958 on sandy soil.

At the time he worked in one of the local coal mines which give the name Carbonia to this south west corner of the island. For many years the family sold off the fruit but in 2013 they decided to make their own, using the local co-operative that year but since using their own winery and calling the wine Nerominiera and then introducing a riserva called Sulcis, the name of the mine Silvio worked in. This is fermented with natural yeast in open tanks and then matured in oak for 12 months. The Nerominiera sees no oak. Both wines are packed full of soft, rich fruit.
