Escarpment

Escarpment winery is the brainchild of Larry & Sue McKenna and Robert & Mem Kirby. The winery can be found just 5km east of the village of Martinborough on New Zealand’s North Island. The farm extends to 24 hectares on alluvial gravel soils along the Huangarua River.

The climate here is ideal with summers rarely getting above 30ºC allowing the grapes a long hang time on the vine. The rainfall is also amongst the lowest on the North Island at 700mm per annum. Larry McKenna made his name at Martinborough Vineyard before setting up this venture and he is recognised as one of the country’s top producers of Pinot Noir.
