Graševina

The most widely planted white grape in Croatia, this is a variety widely planted across central and eastern Europe under many different names. Most commonly it is known as Welschriesling but, confusingly, is not related to the famous German Riesling. In Slovenia and Serbia it is called laški rizling, and in Czech Republic and Slovakia it is known as Rizling Vlassky. Hungary, where it is called Olasz Riesling, has both dry and sweet examples. Despite this grape being the source of Lutomer Laski Rizling in times gone by, Graševina can create high-quality wines. This is an aromatic grape variety that has naturally high acidity making it perfect for sweet wine production.
