The Cuervo history started out in 1758 when Don José Antonio de Cuervo, a Spaniard, was given a grant for land from the Spanish King.

The distillery was set up in 1795 by Jose Maria Guadalupe Cuervo when he was granted the first concession by the Spanish King Carlos IV to grow Blue Agaves and produce Tequila commercially. Tequila is produced in a delimited zone around the town of Tequila in Jalisco province. The Cuervo distillery is sited in the town of Tequila, near Guadalajara in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
