Nerello Cappuccio

Hooded like a capuchin monk or a cappuccino coffee - in its case with a distinctive dusty bloom on the grapes - Nerello Cappuccio plays second fiddle to its more tuneful band member Nerello Mascalese. By law it can only form a minor percentage in Etna Rosso DOC wines; in practice however it is so intermingled with Nerello Mascalese in some of Etna’s lava-strewn old vineyards that specific percentages are tricky to gauge.
