Sangiovese/Brunello

Sangiovese is Italy’s most planted red grape variety, however, it is in Tuscany where it excels. There are actually two families of Sangiovese: Grosso from which we get Brunello; and Piccolo grown in the rest of the region. Sangiovese is a slow grower, ripening late - even into October. It is a thin-skinned variety which, under the Italian sun, produces gorgeously bright, black cherry flavoured wines with naturally high acidity to cope with the oils and fats in the local foods. Definitely classy, it ages well too.
