Val di Toro

Val di Toro is a family owned winery in Maremma in Southern Tuscany, near to Grosseto and about five miles from the sea. It was founded in 2003 by Anna Maria Cruciata, originally from Sicily and her husband Hugh Maxwell.

The land used to be used for breeding Maremman bulls, hence the name of the winery but is very suitable for vine growing being high in minerals and, at an altitude of 90 metres, cooled by breezes from the sea. Their aim is to produce wines according to organic principles and the vineyards have been certified organic since 2015. There are now 12 hectares of vines with every aspect of production, both in the vineyard and winery carried out with the greatest respect for the environment. Grape varieties are mostly Sangiovese with a little Montepulciano and Vermentino and Grechetto for the whites. The resulting wines are fresh, and flavoursome with real depth of character.
