Criolla
Criolla is actually a broad family of grapes including Criolla Chica and Criolla Grande, the two main Criollas found today. The parent (Listan Prieto) was introduced by Spanish colonists in the 16th century to South America, establishing itself and its offspring particularly in Argentina. It has long been a staple of small local vineyards there producing light-bodied wines with acidity and soft tannins, showing fresh red fruit flavours such as strawberry and cherry, often with subtle floral or herbal notes, making it approachable and easy-drinking. Flavours intensify when the grapes are grown at altitude.
