Malbec

Shooting up the ‘fashionable’ table in recent years, Malbec is now the signature red grape in Argentina where is laps up the sun to make intense, supple and juicy wines which age nicely too. It is a very dark thick-skinned variety, originally popular in Bordeaux as a component of claret but in France it is now more usually found in the South West’s Cahors region where it makes the famous black wines. It is also quite widely planted in the Loire where you may come across it as Cot.
