Pol Roger Vintage, Brut Champagne 2019 - Magnum En Primeur (Case of 3)

£450.00

ALC 12.5%

This wine is still to be bottled and as such the advertised ABV may be subject to change on its eventual arrival and inspection into the U.K.

63.5% Pinot Noir and 36.5% Chardonnay exclusively from premier and grand cru vineyards across the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs. No oak is used in the winemaking at Pol Roger (this has been the case for 50 years!), so the purity of fruit is very much paramount, and further highlighted the natural brightness of the 2019 vintage. A Pinot-dominant nose of red berry fruits, pressed flowers, a mix of toasted nuts, and white orchard fruits that bleed into orange stone fruits and citrus, courtesy of the Chardonnay. Glorious aromatics, a wonderfully fine structure, and full of energy. This is a brilliant release, already delicious and will absolutely reward the patient. Drink 2027-2050

Pol Roger

The floral, elegant, slightly citrusy champagnes of Pol Roger lead many to assume that Chardonnay is the dominant grape here, when in actual fact black grapes play a more important role in most of Pol Roger’s champagnes. That elegant style means that perfectly healthy grapes have to be used which is easier for Pol Roger because have their own extensive vineyard holdings. The Pol-Roger family and their cousins the de Billys still maintain ties with the family of Sir Winston Churchill, the most famous fan of Pol Roger champagnes. He even had a racehorse called Odette Pol-Roger! Hubert de Billy did a wonderful tasting for customers at Wyle Cop a year or two back.

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
