Brachetto
Brachetto is an ancient red grape from north-west Italy, you’ll find it in Piemonte and the hills around Acqui Terme. Dating from Roman times, it has long been prized for aroma rather than structure, which is fairly light. Best known through Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG, the grape produces highly perfumed sparkling (or frizzante) wines with notes of rose petals, wild strawberry and redcurrant. Low tannins, bright acidity and modest alcohol give Brachetto a light and quaffable nature not unlike good red Lambrusco.
