Burgundy 2025 En Primeur
Welcome to the Burgundy 2025 En Primeur landing page. We will populate this with new releases and updated information as we go, but as always, we kick things off with the excellent range of Mâcon wines from Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon, and the dazzling Chablis of Samuel Billaud.
We plan to visit our producers in November, and our complete Burgundy 2025 EP offer will be released early January 2027.
Burgundy 2025 is a promising vintage but it is a highly complicated picture – as one would expect of such a diverse region that covers some 150 miles. Here is a brief breakdown of the sub-regions on offer:
Chablis
A warm start to the year led to rapid growth in the vineyard, the wet winter replenished ground reserves for the dry spring and summer but there was also some very localised frost hit some right bank producers hard (Samuel reported losses of 30-40%). June was the warmest since 2003 and August saw days of 40°C, so canopy management was vitally important especially as 2025 saw a huge amount of sunlight hours. Storms in August brought potential rot pressures and so picking quickly was important to achieve sensible ABVs and natural tension. The wines are concentrated and rich thanks to the sunshine and reduced yield.
Maconnais
2025 Mâcon compares with 2024 Côte d’Or – wet and miserly at times albeit with much more sunlight and warmer temperatures. Even summarizing a sub-region like this is tricky, however, such were the weather events in this patchwork of villages and vineyards. In terms of yield, some producers were healthy at ~50hl/ha, while others came in at just 10hl/ha! This is absolutely a year to follow a trusted producer rather than a favoured appellation. Expect good concentration from the Lafon wines, thanks to a much-reduced crop; the wines have a fresh personality, and site expression is true, with a hint of the exotic here and there.

A tweak to the label addresses the prime location of these vines, just above Les Clos, which were planted by Samuel’s father 50 years ago. Nicely weighted, far superior to most Petit Chablis, offering notes of white flowers, green apple, citrus and chalk – great lift, plenty of zip and should drink well on release. 0-5 years.

The village of Chardonnay is found about halfway between Viré and Tournus in the north of the region, and this south-facing 3ha clos, while south-facing is at an elevated position, exposed to the wind. It offers a compact, silky, measured nose of white and yellow fruits, and a hint of the more tropical. Intense and lush on the palate, more open and textured, with a mouthwatering mineral flourish. A great all-rounder. 0-7 years.
