Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle, 27 (Gift Box)

£220.00

75cl ALC 12%

Iteration No. 27 is a blend of the years 2015 (65%), 2013 (25%) and 2012 (10%). Vibrant, white gold in colour with fine persistent bubbles. An alluring nose of honeysuckle, lemon, brioche, clementine and fresh salted butter notes are followed by hints of honey and hazelnut. Rich and complex with notable minerality on the palate, the notes of lemon, honey and almonds follow through on the long finish. A superb Champagne with years of potential development ahead of it. Delicious!

Press Review

"Impressively aromatic, showing honeysuckle, violets and lavender with bread dough and just a hint of light caramel as well as dried apples, cooked pears and tarte tatin. Reductive with graphite, stone and iodine.  Some chalk too. Full-bodied but not at all heavy, turning almost weightless. Nine years on the lees and 7 g/L dosage give energy, length and form. Goes on for minutes. This will age beautifully but is already fascinating, evolving in the glass. Drink or hold. 99/100."

"65% 2015, 25% 2013 and 10% 2012.  60% Chardonnay from Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant, with 40% Pinot Noir from Tours-sur-Marne, Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzy.  Grand Siècle is meant to be greater than the vintage cuvée and is always Chardonnay-dominant.  Only eight crus this time, although there is meant to be as many as 11.  For Olivier Vigneron N°26 was more like a statue, a block, while N°27 is more vibrant and energetic.  10 years on lees.  Dosage 7 g/l.  Disgorged in January 2025. Great raciness and intensity on the nose!  This is an early-developing iteration apparently.  Richly nuanced and explosive.  Attention-grabbing.  On the finish it's really salivatory.  Bone dry end.  Tense again.  Very rewarding.  Takes you on a journey and eventually develops into a persistent whole. 18.5+/20"

Laurent-Perrier

Laurent-Perrier lays claim to being the largest independent Champagne house, having been built up in spectacular fashion by Bernard de Nonancourt from small beginnings.

His two daughters - Alexandra and Stéphanie - are involved in the business, helping to keep the inimitable Brut Rosé on the tip of people’s tongues, as well as the elegant Chardonnay-dominated ‘Brut L-P’. Laurent-Perrier is to be found out in the countryside, in extensive grounds near Tours-sur-Marne, in contrast to the great majority of big Champagne houses which operate from town sites in Epernay and Reims. Laurent-Perrier also owns three other houses: De Castellane, Salon and Delamotte.
