Château d’Aiguilhe

Château d’Aiguilhe, in the right-bank Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, was acquired by Stephan von Neipperg in late 1998. With a history dating back to the 13th century, the château was once the centre of a fortified farm and occupied an important strategic position during the Hundred Years’ War. Today, the estate covers 140 hectares, including 90 hectares of vineyards planted on a south-facing plateau. A thin layer of clay-limestone and clay-silt sits on top of a bed of limestone, providing excellent natural drainage, while the vines have an average age of 28 years.

The principal wine combines power and freshness, expressing the distinctive character of its terroir. The vineyard is planted predominantly to Merlot, alongside Cabernet Franc, with grapes harvested by hand and carefully sorted. Fermentation takes place in wooden and concrete vats, followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing on fine lees, with up to 50% new oak, for 15–18 months. Château d’Aiguilhe also produces the fruity second wine, Seigneurs d’Aiguilhe, as well as Le Blanc d’Aiguilhe, a Sauvignon Blanc introduced in 2015.
