Château Lagrange

Listed as a Third Growth in the 1855 classification, Château Lagrange’s Grand Vin is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot, with fruit from the estate’s oldest vines and 21 months of ageing in barrels, half of which are new. 

The estate’s philosophy places particular emphasis on precision, from plot-specific viticulture and harvesting at optimum maturity through to separate vinification and careful blending. The Grand Vin is subject to rigorous selection, generally accounting for no more than 40% of the harvest. This leaves outstanding plots and older vines for the estate’s second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange.

First created in 1983, Les Fiefs was one of the early examples of a second wine and was introduced to enable more stringent selection for the Grand Vin. Produced from vines averaging around 30 years old, with Cabernet Sauvignon traditionally accounting for about half the blend, it is aged for 13 months in barrels, 20% of which are new. Elegant in its youth with supple tannins, depth and intensity develop with age and it retains significant ageing potential.
