Fernanda Cappello

This 130 hectare estate is situated at Sequals at the foot of the Friulian hills in north east Italy. The vines are planted on very gravelly, mineral soil between the Cellina and Meduna rivers in their own micro climate where the Tramontina wind keeps the grapes healthy. The Dolomites form a dramatic backdrop to the vineyards.

The estate is run by third generation Fernanda Cappello who gave up a career in architecture to make wine full time along with her son Nicola Bedendo. There is now a brand new winery and wine bar and the wines are made to exacting technical standards, and great care is taken with regard to the environment. Solar panels mean that the winery is self-sufficient for power, everything possible is recycled and rare breeds of bird can be found in the vineyards. The white wines are aromatic and crisp; the reds have lovely fresh fruit.
