Gamay

A re-awakening of interest in Beaujolais has pushed Gamay (its sole grape variety) to the fore. It has a gorgeously fruity, full-throttle raspberry and plum flavour, while its softness comes from being very low in tannin – although it ages surprisingly well. It prefers the granite soils of the Beaujolais region to limestone or clay elsewhere but has made little impact around the world.
