Hailing from ‘green’ Galicia in the North-West of Spain, and just over the border in Northern Portugal where it goes by the name of Gouveiro, Godello has similarities with that other Galician star, Albariño, but with perhaps a softer, peachier centre and ripe lemon finish. It is certainly one of the Iberian Penisula’s finest white grape varieties, can take a bit of barrel-ageing too and is most definitely worth seeking out.
