Gouveio
While Godello qv. goes under a wide number of other synonyms, it is likely that the quality of Gouveio links it directly with this resurrected Galician variety that has migrated down the coast to Portugal’s Vinho Verde and the Douro Valley regions. It makes a charming, well-balanced wine with lots of quality and the ability to take a dollop of oak on board as well. Used in blends more than its sister variety, Albarino/Alvarinho, it brings a succulent peachy complexity to the party, alongside balance and intensity.
