Jean-Marc Brocard

In 1971 Jean-Marc Brocard married Claudine Petit, daughter of a wine grower in Saint Bris. Jean-Marc learnt the art of winemaking from his father-in-law Emile Petit and Emile’s cousin Louis.

Then in 1973 Jean-Marc settled in Préhy in Chablis starting with just 0.3ha of vines. In 1986 he built a cellar amongst the vineyards which dominates the views north towards Chablis itself. Today he is handing the reins over to his son Julien, who is ably assisted by his sister Céline. They are now in charge of over 200 ha of vineyards, which they farm on biodynamic and organic principles, with new state-of-the-art technologies being used in the chai - a new gravity fed winery was built in 2001 that uses a quarter of the water of the old one. Meanwhile sales have forged ahead and they currently export to over 44 countries worldwide. Brocard wines are elegant and poised – “precision and freshness” the signature that Julien says he seeks.
