Jim Barry Wines

Jim Barry Wines is a multi-generational, family-owned winery in Clare Valley, South Australia. The winery was founded in 1959 by Jim Barry and his wife, Nancy. The Barry family winery became the firrst in Australia to have three generations of winemakers graduate from the Roseworthy/Waite School of Oenology. Today, Jim and Nancy’s son, Peter, oversees the running of the business, along with his wife, Sue and children, Tom (winemaking), Sam (sales and marketing) and Olivia (brand ambassador).

The Barry & Sons range of wines is exclusive to Tanners in the UK and comprises a Clare Riesling and Shiraz together with Cabernet from the iconic Coonawarra region. The Assyrtiko, the only one in Australia, is from a vineyard established from cuttings taken from the Argyros Estate in Santorini. The Barry family believe that great wine is made in the vineyard and are committed to owning their own vineyards. This control allows them to develop outstanding fruit quality and favour which are then retained during winemaking. Over the last 60 years the family has acquired 11 vineyards covering 260 hectares in the Clare Valley and two vineyards covering 35 hectares in Coonawarra. Each is unique in soil profile, climate, aspect and elevation. In Clare this includes Armagh, Lodge Hill, Florita, famous for its Riesling, while in Coonawarra, Peter bought the old Penola cricket ground to establish a vineyard and a range of labels.
