Krug

The yard at the diminutive Krug cellars in Reims is often to be seen strewn with barrels being lovingly washed and restored before being used to ferment another vintage of Krug.

There is therefore an immediate comparison here with Bollinger, who also ferment in oak, and a similar rich biscuity style is evident. At Krug they prefer to call their non-vintage champagne ‘multi-vintage’ because it contains a high proportion of reserve wines from the best vintages. The blending is always done by a member of the Krug family, currently represented by Olivier Krug. This tradition has continued through many years of corporate ownership; Krug is currently owned by French luxury conglomerate, LVMH. Customers still talk about a very memorable dinner we held at Wyle Cop with Olivier's uncle, Remi Krug.
