Max-Ferd Richter

The estate has been in the Richter family for 300 years, beginning with a vineyard purchase in the Brauneberger in 1643.

The family house was built in 1774 and in 1880 the winery was constructed which today houses a hugely impressive collection of large, old oak barrels and looks really like it should be in North Wales given the slate construction. The estate today consists of 20 hectares of vines which is quite large for this part of the Mosel and is run by 9th generation Dirk Richter and his son Constantin. The vines are in top sites throughout the Middle Mosel but with key vineyards on the Brauneberger Juffer and around their home village of Mülheim. Vineyard management is as natural as possible with no pesticides or herbicides used and fermentation uses natural yeasts with minimum intervention in oak. The resulting wines are full of flavour and very long lasting.
