An independent family business since 1842...sounds familiar! Today it is very ably run by Eduard Dirk Niepoort (known as Dirk), the fifth generation of the family. Dirk took charge in 2005 having worked alongside his father, Rolf, since 1987.
During this time they purchased their first vineyards: Quinta de Nápoles, the site of their brand new state of the art winery, and Quinta do Carril in the Cima Corgo region considered the prime area for port production. Some of the vineyards were replanted and are now 20 years old, and others were retained which are now between 60 and 80 years old. Dirk has been selling table wine since the 1999 vintage and is widely considered to be one of the best producers in the Douro. He was joined by his sister, Verena, in 2005 as Executive Director. He is helped also by Luis Sebra their winemaker.
