Solaris
Perhaps the current champion of English and Welsh still whites, Solaris is a white grape variety developed in Germany in the 1970s, bred for disease resistance and early ripening, perfect for our cool-climate viticulture alongside Madeleine Angevine (‘Mad Ange’). It produces intensely aromatic wines with pretty high acidity (zip) and pronounced fruit character, typically showing flavours of citrus, tropical fruit, and stone fruits, often with floral and honeyed notes. Solaris is versatile, capable of yielding crisp, dry styles or rich, sweet wines, and is prized for its clarity, freshness, and reliability in challenging climates. It works really well in Shropshire.
