Château Capbern, Saint-Estèphe 2019

£37.00

Soft and ripe to taste with black plum and a compote of freshly cooked dark fruit. Plenty of weight and depth with some enjoyably chalky tannins and a lovely spicy finish.

Château Calon-Ségur

Calon-Ségur was bought by Georges Gasqueton and his uncle, Charles Hanappier in 1894. It remained in the family with Philippe Capbern Gasqueton as administrator until 2012. During the 1940s and 50s the estate's reputation soared.

It is the most northerly in St-Estèphe and maintains its standing. Today, Château Calon-Ségur is owned by the Suravenir company, subsidiary of the banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa headed by Jean-Pierre Denis. Huge investment is taking place with substantial replanting in the vineyard and rebuilding of the chai.
