Another Margaux with a terrific pedigree that is rather overshadowed by more shouty neighbours. The long-time organic management gives Durfort a clean, mineral edge and bright acidity that zips from the glass. There’s mint and liquorice on the nose before a palate that has succulence yet is precise and focused. Blackcurrant comes through to give a juicy, full bore flavour and a classy edge. It is more elegant than 2022, more freshness and perhaps more charm.

Château Durfort-Vivens

This is one of five second growths in Margaux. The château remained in the ownership of the Durfort de Duras family for seven centuries, before being bought by M.Vivens in 1824. With 37 hectares of fine vineyards, it was purchased by Lucien Lurton in 1961 who passed it to his son Gonzague in 1992. He achieved biodynamic certification for the property in 2016.
