Château Léoville Poyferré, 2e cru classé Saint-Julien 2023 En Primeur - Case of 6

£337.50

A standout Saint-Julien of the vintage. Always one of the more generous wines of the commune, the Poyferré is brooding with aromas of black cherry, violets and mocha. Generous and dense on the mid-palate, it manages to pack a punch whilst coming in at a modest 13.1%abv. Framed by fine tannins and juicy multi-layered fruit, hints of graphite and cedar on the finish, this is an absolute triumph! 5-15+ years.

Château Léoville Poyferré

Léoville Poyferré was originally part of the Léoville estate including Las Cases and Barton but by the time of the 1855 classification it was split with the part owned by the Poyferré family achieving the same second growth status as the other two Léovilles. It was bought by the Cuvelier family at the end of the 19th century although for much of the 20th century quality was poor. Things turned around when Didier Cuvelier took over in 1979 with much replanting, a new chai, and the assistance of top consultants such as Michel Rolland. Quality is now top rank with a rich, seductive style. Moulin Riche was the name of an estate incorporated into Poyferré that fulfilled the role of their second wine until recently, and today is more of a wine in its own right with Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré being the second wine of both.

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
