Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Giraud 2024 (organic) En Primeur - Case of 6

£174.00

75cl ALC 14.5%

This wine is still to be bottled and as such the advertised ABV maybe be subject to change on its eventual arrival and inspection into the U.K.

Poised and aromatic showing a well-defined spectrum of plums on the nose. This is a big wine with a rich, fruity, chunky body firmly holding on to grippy tannin preparing it for a few years in bottle which will be very rewarding indeed, allowing the pure high-quality fruit to really spread its wings. 2-10 years

Domaine Giraud

The domaine began in 1974 when Pierre and Mireille Giraud, both from vine growing families, took on 4 hectares of vines as tenant farmers. Over the years they gradually increased the size of the domaine through purchasing rented vineyards and through inheritance.

They also turned an old distillery into a winery and barrel-ageing cellar. In 1998 the estate passed to their children, Marie and François. There are now 19 hectares of vineyards in three parts of Châteauneuf although split into 64 parcels, 8 on the Crau plateau in the centre of the appellation known as the ‘Terres Blanches’, 8 in the Gallimardes area at the south of the appellation, an area with a very stony terroir, and the rest on sandy soil around Pignan in the Rayas area. Many of the vines are 100-year-old Grenache with plots of Mourvèdre, younger Syrah and also small amounts of white varieties. They concentrate very much on selecting parcel by parcel, using minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the winery, and are upgrading their cellar. The wines are bottled unfiltered and unfined. They are in conversion to organic viticulture. Three red wines are produced, the Tradition from a blend of the areas and grape varieties, the Gallimardes from that area and mostly Grenache, and the Grenache de Pierre from the sandy Crau and Pignan areas, all Grenache. These last two cuvées are not made every year. Marie and François are very serious and dedicated and making wonderful wines.

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
