Just one third of the wine spends time in oak, rounding things off and bringing the barest touch of cream. This is deeply aromatic, fresh and pure, with notes of black cherry and blackberry jam. The palate too is bright and fresh, very fruit-forward and shows good density and a pleasing grip that suggests it will have decent staying power. Nicely proportioned and bags of lovely Douro fruit! 0-5 years.

Made by Duorum, a joint venture between João-Portugal Ramos of the Alentejo and José Maria Soares Franco, ex Barca Velha. The vines are in two sites in the Douro: in the Cima Corgo (middle Douro) and the Alto Douro, where there is a large investment in a winery and 45 Ha of new plantings at the beautifully situated Castelo Melhor, perched above a remote section of the Douro. 70 Ha of vines are also rented. José-Luis Moreira da Silva is the oenologist and João Perry Vidal is the viticulturist.
