The 2022 Fenix is based on 70% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the final 3% Cabernet Franc. It has classic Merlot darker cherry and currant fruits as well as some chocolate, herb, and leafy tobacco-like nuances that pick up a floral edge with time in the glass. It's beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, has a round, layered, lush mouthfeel, and ripe tannins. Jonata

Jonata is the second estate under The Hilt umbrella. Although also under the control of winemaker Matt Dees it’s very different in terms of climate, soils and grape varieties. Although still in Santa Barbera, it’s much further, inland in the Ballard Canyon AVA where the maritime influence of the Santa Rita Hills meets the warmer climate of Happy Canyon. The soils here are sandy rather than rocky and the grape varieties are mainly Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, so it all complements The Hilt perfectly.
