Shafer Vineyards TD-9, Napa Valley 2023 En Primeur - Case of 6

£282.00

75cl ALC 15.3%

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 4% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot all from Napa and mostly Shafer's vineyards in the Southern Foothills just south of Stag's Leap District. This is a superb TD-9, richly structured thanks to the long growing season and 18 months in new French oak barriques, offering up rich cherry and plum fruits, cassis and raspberry, graphite and dark flowers. It is both luxuriously textured and bright with plentiful, fine tannins and the freshness makes it appealing to drink on release. 0-9 years.

The 2023 displays beautiful complexity with layers of blackberry, black plum, and spice, accented by layers of tobacco, toast, and savory herbs. Both lush and energetic, this mouth filling Cabernet Sauvignon is ripe, round, and perfectly balanced. Silky tannins provide structure and grace, promising even greater elegance and depth with time in your cellar.” — Elias Fernandez, Winemaker

Shafer Vineyards

In 1972 Shafer purchased the winery which is located at the north end of the Stag’s Leap District of the Napa Valley, and their first vintage was in 1978. The ethos is small and family orientated, the approach to the wines quite European. They are one of the few wineries to have a proper barrel cellars cut into the hillside behind the winery. In the cellar the only wood is in the barrels, everywhere else stainless steel is used to reduce the incidence of TCA.

The vineyards are managed sustainably, without the need for chemical fertilisers or pesticides, and drip irrigation (common throughout California) is used. Birds of prey are encouraged to help with the gophers. Warm days and cool nights followed by morning fog adds elegance to the wines. 21 acres over 4 sites with a production of about 30,000 cases of wine per annum. They use drip irrigation (used throughout California).

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
