Dalmore Distillery

In 1839 Alexander Matheson purchased Ardross Farm and opened a distillery, overlooking the Cromarty firth. Whisky production was subsequently taken over by the Mackenzie family, who were able to buy the distillery and surrounding land as a result of the Crofters Holdings (Scotland) Act of 1886. The whisky was mostly supplied to Whyte & Mackay with whom they merged in 1960 and today the distillery is owned by Beam Global, who own Jim Beam Bourbon.
