Started in 2001, Domaine Mucyn is a modern domaine in an historic setting, they make wines with elegance, fruit and a pure mineral quality.
Jean-Pierre and Hélène Mucyn studied in Beaune before purchasing land in the Northern Rhône, in 2001. The house is the old rest house for the ferrymen and their horses that crossed the river Rhône, some 300 metres from the house. At 250 years old it needed some attention, but they have lovingly restored it to house a winery and Chai. After more than 20 years they are nearly there, with the final few touches being made to a beautiful new tasting room, overlooking their apricot grove.
After starting out with just half a hectare of Crozes-Hermitage they now have 20 ha including 13 in Crozes-Hermitage (11 red and 2 white), 1.6 ha Cornas, 2.8 ha St Joseph red, 0.9 ha St Joseph white and a little 0.7 ha IGP near St Joseph. Jean-Pierre and Hélène are clearly very passionate about what they do and are continually striving to make improvements.
They are now fully organic, with 2021 marking the final year of conversion. Their range of wines is excellent, with a clear mineral quality, elegance and fruit rather than power and oak. They also make a rather delicious apricot conserve!
