Lagrein

This red grape is a cousin of Syrah and the intensity of black fruit flavour, which also works with barrel-ageing suggests that it can produce good, cellaring wines – the Australians are trying hard here, with encouraging results. The origins of the variety are in the Alto Adige of North Italy.
