Negroamaro

A southern Italian red variety with quite a hint of sweet richness to it, almost chocolatey at times, that translates literally as ‘black-bitter’. This velvety style can be swamped by robust flavours, so you may find that it drinks best on its own. Salice Salentino from Puglia is a good example.
