Talley Vineyards

A fourth generation, family run winery, making estate grown Burgundian style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the coolest AVA in California.

Located in the Arroyo Grande Valley AVA, in the San Luis Obispo (SLO) coast region, Talley Vineyards is very much a family affair. Oliver Talley started a very successful vegetable growing business, Talley Farm, in 1948, but it was his son Don who chose to plant the first vineyards in 1982. When Don realised his avocado plants had been devastated by winter frosts he knew he needed to rethink his fruit and vegetable offering, and choose to diversify, planting vines alongside the existing crops. Don’s son Brian now spearheads the wine business alongside his daughter Elizabeth, who focusses on the marketing and events management.

Due to the proximity of the vineyards to the Pacific Ocean, which is just seven miles away, the Arroyo Grande Valley is one of the coolest areas in California. Experiencing consistently cool, maritime breezes and a long, mild growing season it provides the perfect conditions for growing world class Burgundian style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Eric Johnson heads up the winemaking team, alongside Brain, creating award winning estate and single vineyard wines from the Rincon, Stone Corral, Olivers and Rosemary’s vineyards. The avocado patch mentioned above now forms Rosemary’s Vineyard and was named after Brian’s mother.

The Chardonnays possess a signature vitality and tension, whilst the Pinots offer intense aromatics and red toned, wildflower notes.
