£132.00 Sold Out

75cl ALC 12.5%

There is a generosity and ease about La Tufera in 2022. Good volume and a silky fat core with very good richness and concentration, lovely intensity, a sparkling quality of acidity and delicate mineral touches. Very well balance, clean and pure, with a fine mealy finish. 0-5 years.

Etienne Sauzet

The Etienne Sauzet domaine is an exemplar of wine production in Puligny-Montrachet and, with Benoît Riffault now in charge of winemaking, the wines continue to be pitch perfect in their concentration and energy.

Benoît is from the Loire Valley – Sancerre to be exact – so grew up with Sauvignon not Chardonnay. He married Emilie Boudot, the great granddaughter of Etienne Sauzet, so Chardonnay it had to be! Emilie is focused on the commercial side of the business, while her father Gérard, who ran the estate from 1975 onwards, is as retired as one can be ‘living over the shop’. The estate extends to 15 ha with their production supplemented by some bought-in grapes for the Garenne, Chevalier-Montrachet and Bourgogne, originally to replace vines lost some years ago due to inheritance. A tasting with either Gérard or Benoît in their swish tasting room is an unrivalled education in the different terroirs of Puligny-Montrachet. Each wine as one moves up the scale copes with a little more new oak, culminating in 40% for the grand crus. There are nine different Puligny-Montrachet 1er crus and four out of five of the grand crus: Bâtard, Bienvenue-Bâtard, Chevalier and Le Montrachet. The more modest Bourgogne ‘La Tufera’ is always a good buy, as is the Puligny-Montrachet, a blend of nine different parcels.

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
