Full-bodied, with amazing intensity, tension, and lots of chew, this is spicy and dynamic, offering deliciously ripe dark fruit flavours, notes of dark chocolate, tobacco, and tea. Bright and tangy with obvious power, plenty of grip and superb length of flavour with a fine, dry, and palpable mineral line, as well as the estate's vinous and sappy vein.

Quinta do Vesuvio

A legendary 325 hectare estate in the upper Douro, Vesuvio was purchased in 1823 by António Bernardo Ferreira who built hundreds of terraces and an impressive adega over a thirteen year period.

It was António’s daughter-in-law, Dona Antónia, who consolidated the estate’s fortunes and considerable reputation. By the 1970s, despite its fame, the estate’s wines had become somewhat anonymous, and it is only under the stewardship of new owners, the Symingtons, that its fortunes have been revived. Vesuvio’s Ports are still trodden by foot in the quinta’s eight huge lagares. The estate has many single variety vineyards and, for the 2007 vintage, launched two table wines, alongside the famous Vintage Port.
