English Wine Week 2025

English Wine Week has arrived. A proud moment in the wine calendar, Amy McCudden explores why this year is even more special for Tanners…

English Wine Week celebrates more than just the wine—it honours the craft, skill, and unwavering dedication of English producers.

Having moved far beyond just a novelty, there is a treasure trove of English wine that will delight the senses. From well-known grapes such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to lesser-known types, including the disease-resistant ‘PiWi’ varieties (a contraction from the German' pilzwiderstandsfähige,’ meaning fungus-resistant), the landscape is dotted with producers who have built, and continue to build, a thriving and innovative environment.

But why is English Wine Week 2025 so special for Tanners? Raise a glass to the best of British with a bottle (or two) of the brand new Tanners English Sparkling Brut, Traditional Method. Crisp, refreshing and delicate, it’s everything you hoped it to be – elegant, charming and superb value.

Naturally, like all our own-label wines, it’s from an impeccable source. As a merchant, Tanners doesn’t have vineyards, but luckily we know people who do. Given our connections, it’s only natural to entrust those at the top of their game with creating the Tanners Label range with quality, consistency and value for you at the forefront of decision making.

Made from the three classic champagne varieties, namely Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, this new addition to the own label range is a celebration of the quality found on our green and pleasant land.

How should you open and serve English Sparkling wine?

  • Always make sure the bottle is angled away from you
  • Gently remove the foil and the wire cage
  • Keeping a thumb over the exposed cork, slowly twist the bottle, not the cork
  • You’ll feel the cork start to push and release under the pressure until it’s fully released from the bottle.

A temperature of between 8º - 10ºC is typically suggested. It’s best to keep the bottle cool, not cold.

It’s suggested that you take your bottle out of the fridge roughly 20 minutes before serving. If the wine is too cold, it can arrest some of the delicious aromas and flavours.

What should you do if you need to chill your bottle of Tanners English Sparkling Brut quickly?

Fill a bucket with cold water and ice, give it 20 minutes or so and it’ll be ready to serve.

When should you drink Tanners English Sparkling wine?

Anytime you like! It’s the perfect sparkling wine to open for all manner of occasions. Popping the cork and enjoying a quality glass of bubbly doesn’t necessarily need a celebratory excuse. For under £30 a bottle, it’s perfect for weekend sipping or introducing friends and family to the superb Tanners Own Label range.
