Château La Lagune
This is the most southerly class growth estate in the Médoc and one of the few not in one of the four famous communes.
Although it has a long history by 1958 the estate was on the verge of going out of existence until rescued by Georges Brunet who started the process of restoration. The estate passed to the Frey family in 2000 with Caroline Frey as winemaker who has continued the improvements and changed the style by reducing the amount of new oak used. The old barrels go to Jaboulet in the Rhône, which is now also owned by the Frey family. The wine is rich and substantial and ages well. The property achieved its organic certification from the 2016 vintage.
