Château Mazerolles
Mazerolles is situated near to the picturesque town of Blaye with its magnificent Vauban-built citadel. This 12 hectare property, originally established in 1921, is owned by the Guillet family headed up by Paul Guillet who is assisted by oenologist Nicolas Piffre.
The vines have an average age of 45 years but with some plots over 60 years. The vineyards are divided into 19 different parcels, planted with 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Malbec on a clay-limestone soils. They are organic by inclination but not certified and will use interventions when they deem it necessary, but it is something they seek to minimise. Harvesting is a mix of machine and manual, not unusual in this part of Bordeaux, and each plot is vinified separately before being aged for around 14 months in used one year old barrels which they source from a prestigious property in Pauillac.
