Domaine de la Chaponne - L Guillet
Laurent Guillet has 13 hectares with vines of up to 90 years of age on superb, steeply sloping sites in Morgon such as Grand Cras and Côte de Py. His Côte de Py vineyards contain some basalt which is very free-draining and force his vines to reach even deeper than most.
Unusually concentrated in style, his wines have a surprising depth and power to them that makes them far from run-of-the mill, and capable of ageing well and gaining complexity. Laurent makes his Javer Nière (originally called Cuvée Joseph after his grandfather) cuvée using 2-8 yr old barrels from land at the bottom of the Côte de Py which has deep blue schist soils that bring more structure and power into play.
