English Whisky Company
The English Whisky Company was set up in 2005 by father and son team James and Andrew Nelstrop at Roudham in Norfolk. Their family has a long history in milling, and James thought the next step was to open a distillery.
Production started at St George's Distillery in 2006 and the whisky that flowed from the stills was the first distilled in England for over a century. They now produce a peated whisky, with a lovely medicinal sweetness akin to Caol Ila, as well as the original unpeated version, reminiscent of Glenmorangie. It is interesting to note that whisky in cask matures faster the further south it is, due to higher ambient temperatures, so the whisky tastes far more mature than its real age.
