Feteasca Regala
Fetească Regală, meaning ‘royal young girl’, originated in Transylvania in the 1920s and is now the most widely planted Feteasca in Romania. It produces fresh, approachable wines that balance fruitiness and minerality, making it well suited drinking young. It also tends towards a more medium style with bright, fruity flavours at its core. Be aware that ‘Feteasca’ on the label in many Eastern European countries may cover more than this variety, including the red Neagra, but you can’t go wrong in Hungary where it is called Konigliche Madchentraube.
