Raventós Rosell
A family-owned winery established from scratch, Raventós Rosell makes wines that respect the character and history of the region with a keen eye on the future. Raventós Rosell was founded in 1985, when Joan Raventós Rosell and Maria Carme Vallverdú Ferrer purchased the historic Heretat Vall-Ventós, a Catalan farmhouse near Masquefa in the Penedès region, not far from Montserrat.
Dating back to the 1700s, the building was restored and expanded into a working winery, complete with newly-planted vineyards and underground cellars dug 25 metres deep. Today, the original farmhouse houses a tasting area, laboratory and part of the winery. Although both Joan and Maria came from families with deep winemaking roots – Joan’s grandfather was instrumental in the fight against phylloxera in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, while Maria is the daughter of a Cava producer – both had followed careers outside the wine industry before returning to their heritage with this project. The estate now spans 52 ha of vineyards surrounding the farmhouse. While international varieties such as Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir are grown, the estate focuses on traditional local grapes Macabeo, Parellada and especially Xarel-lo, which offers structure and heat resistance, making it increasingly important with the changing climate. Raventós Rosell aims to produce consistent, expressive wines that balance tradition with innovation. With a commitment to sustainability and quality, the winery blends respect for heritage with a forward-thinking approach to Catalan viticulture.
