Roxan
The Casa Vinicola Roxan occupies a commanding position in the Abruzzo region on a knoll between the villages of Rosciano and Taverna Nova. Standing guard over the Pescara River valley, the Gran Sasso and Majella massifs, at 2912 and 2795 metres respectively, form a majestic and often snowy backdrop. The Adriatic Sea, only 20 minutes or so away, has a natural cooling effect on their rolling vineyards.
Roxan, found in 1974, is an important producer having about 300 members with 700 ha of vines between them, though much if this doesn’t go directly into bottle, instead being sold to producers in other regions. This leaves Roxan to bottle the best themselves. 70% of the production is red Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, 20% is white Trebbiano with balance being Pecorino, Chardonnay and Moscato. The winery is modern with gleaming tanks outside and cellars filled with wooden botti vats inside, where the Montepulciano gently ages.
